Wedding Day tips - Bridesmaid duties. As a long time Wedding and Bridal Makeup Artist, I'm one of the lucky few who gets to be right there, in the heart of the Wedding day morning preparations. This really is a special time. Where the chosen few get to be the Bridesmaids. Its often said that this is the best part of the day for Bridal team, getting totally pampered, having a giggle and a few drinks. Traditionally, Bridesmaids were literally maids of the brides, tending to her every need, keeping her calm and ensuring she looks her very best. And in my experiences as a makeup artist, I've seen so many different scenarios, where Bridesmaids have sat on the bed all morning on their phones, often disappearing or have at times, looked lost, waiting to be instructed as to what to do. So this is where a little delegation comes into play. So here are my big Wedding day tips to effectively assign helpful bridesmaid duties.

What do you mean by delegation?

Anyone who has been married before will tell you that amidst the excitement, emotions, and treasured memories, so much happens in such a brief period that it can become, well, a bit overwhelming for you, the Bride. If you've seen the film Bridesmaids (which really, you should have) you will see that this film is a lesson in what not to do while navigating your Bride through the whole weddingy process.

So, soon to be Bride, some big Wedding Day tips is to consider is a bit of forward planning by delegating some of the responsibilities to your Bridesmaids. Bridesmaid duties extend beyond just looking pretty; they are there to ensure everything runs smoothly. As I've observed during most wedding preparation mornings, the bridesmaid who has already been married often shares her experiences to make sure things go perfectly. She understands how quickly time can pass, knows when you need to eat, helps the other bridesmaids get into their dresses, keeps the flowers in a cool place, entertains any little ones, and knows the perfect time to pop the prossecco cork while providing you with the emotional support you need through a comforting hug.

It's a good idea to run through the duties of of each bridesmaid the night before the wedding. This pre-wedding gathering serves as an excellent opportunity for everyone involved to clarify their roles and ensure that the day of the wedding runs smoothly. By discussing the specific tasks assigned to each bridesmaid, you can alleviate any potential confusion or anxiety that might arise on the big day.

During this meeting, it’s beneficial to outline the various responsibilities that each bridesmaid will undertake. For instance, some may be tasked with organising the bridal party's attire, ensuring everyone has their dresses, shoes, and accessories ready. Others might be responsible for coordinating with the hair and makeup team to ensure that everyone is prepared on time. It’s also crucial to discuss logistics, such as transportation arrangements to the venue, as well as the timing for when everyone should arrive.

In conclusion, taking the time to run through the responsibilities of each bridesmaid the night before the wedding not only helps to clarify roles and expectations but also strengthens the bond among the bridal party, setting a positive tone for the celebration ahead.

  • Bridesmaids serve as a source of emotional support for the bride, offering words of encouragement, calming nerves, and providing reassurance throughout the day. Whether it's helping to calm pre-wedding jitters or offering a shoulder to lean on during heartfelt moments, bridesmaids are there to uplift and empower the bride.

The Bridal Crew
  • Bridesmaids are responsible for attending to the bride's needs throughout the day, ensuring she stays hydrated, eats regular meals, and has everything she needs to feel comfortable and confident. They may also help with tasks such as holding the bride's bouquet, carrying her personal belongings, and managing any unexpected emergencies that may arise.

At the ceremony
  • During the ceremony, bridesmaids play a significant role in the procession and seating of guests. They may walk down the aisle ahead of the bride, either individually or paired with groomsmen. Bridesmaids also assist in arranging the train of the bride's dress and holding her bouquet during key moments.

Reception duties.
  • Bridesmaids help to ensure that the reception runs smoothly by assisting with various tasks, such as welcoming guests, directing them to their seats, and overseeing the guestbook. They may also participate in traditional activities such as the bouquet toss and joining the bridal party in the first dance.

Photography liaison.
  • Bridesmaids play a crucial role in coordinating photography sessions throughout the day. They help gather family members and bridal party members for group photos, ensure that everyone is camera-ready, and assist the photographer in capturing candid moments and special memories.

Therefore, bridesmaid duties play a vital role in project Team Bride.

They are not only there to walk beautifully by the side of the Bride and straightening her dress and veil, they are the key to providing emotional support, assistance and reassurance as she approaches the alter to meet her partner to say I do. But more than that, they can be invaluable in managing the logistical details to help the whole show run smoothly without a hitch and assist in creating long lasting cherished and magical memories.

Good luck all you Bride Tribes. Make it amazing.
